More hardware recommendations

I’ve made some more recommendations for a couple of clients. I had to research rack-mountable managed gigabit switches and an 8-port rack-mountable kvm switch. For the details read on.

Gigabit Switch

The request was for a 16-port, rack-mountable, gigabit switch with VLAN support.

  • SMC SMCGS24CSMART
    • Though this is a 24-port it was in the same price range as the others which makes it inexpensive for a 24-port switch. Unfortunately a rackmount kit is not included.
  • NETGEAR GS716T
    • 256K buffer, jumbo frames up to 9600 bytes
    • system indicators: power
    • per port indicators: link/act, speed(10/100/1000), duplex
    • reset and factory reset holes in front
  • D-Link DGS-1216T
    • 512K buffer, jumbo frames up to 10240 bytes
    • system indicators: power, cpu
    • port indicators: link/act, speed (10/100/1000)
    • factory reset in rear

Both the D-Link and NETGEAR have 2 SFP ports which are shared with ports 15 and 16. I haven’t totally settled on which one so I may see if the client has any preferences.

KVM Switch

I was asked to look for an 8-port, rack-mountable KVM switch. I settled on the IOGEAR GCS78KIT because it was on sale and came with all the necessary cables.
