I'm not much of a fan of xkcd but I read some while waiting for a long rsync to finish. I found a couple that I could relate to: Success & Christmas Back Home. Also Exploits of a Mom is funny and educational.

These names are all suboptimal in my opinion: Apache, Cherokee, Internet Information Server, AOL Web Server, lighttpd, thttpd, dhttpd, micro-httpd, mini-httpd, mathopd, bozohttpd.

I guess I have an objection to "httpd" being in the name because it is too many syllables.

I've been putting together a backup strategy utilizing backupninja, rdiff-backup, and ssh keys. I was hopeful that the "restrict-update-only" rdiff-backup option could be used to create an rdiff-backup server that could be used only for adding increments and prevent the removal of increments. Unfortunately that seems to not be the case and I'm forced to switch to a pull strategy which is far more complicated. I'm quite disappointed.

After trying my best to run xfs_repair on a large xfs partition (and failing) I realized that the decision to use xfs was a mistake. In no way should anyone use xfs unless: 1) they are sure there will be no compatibility issues, 2) they use it on a 64-bit system, 3) they use it on a system with lots of RAM, 4) they don't use it on a large partition, 5) they are not using it with block device encryption. Believe me, I've tried with each of these issues individually and in combination and have concluded that it was not worth the extra effort.
